Description

WIDOS Butt Welding Machine MINIPLAST 2

The WIDOS MINIPLAST 2 has been designed for butt fusion welding of pipes and fittings made of PE, PP and PVDF with a diameter range of Ø = 20 - 110 mm by way of a heating element plate.

The machine has been kept small and compact so that it can easily be used in amongst the pipe system being welded whilst on site, in holes, ditches etc. as well as for assembly work. For moulded narrow bends and fittings, special small basic clamping devices are available.

For stationary use, the machine can be fixed in the vice or with the included table support.

The basic machine has two large aluminum basic clamping tools which can be swivelled 15° on each side for the fabrication of segmented bends and is equipped with vertical and horizontal adjustment. In this basic configuration pipes and fittings from OD 20 up to OD 110 can be butt fusion welded.

With optional small fitting clamping tools, it is suitable for containing molded fittings with short clamping ends.

An extended version for the fabrication of T-pieces and bends 90° (up to OD 90 mm) is available. In this setup each basic clamping tool can be swiveled up to 45° on both sides.

By screwing in 8 small reduction clamping inserts, double clamping is obtained for smaller diameters.

Extremely short overhanging pipe ends can be clamped and welded.

The WIDOS Miniplast/2 can be used in the workshop, on the construction site and for the installation.

The light and compact manual planer is operated by means of a ratchet (an optional electric planer is available). The electronically adjusted heating element features an anti-stick coating and a control lamp for system and interval checking.

For safe storage the planer and heating element are stored in a heat-protected box. The sheet steel carrying case serves for the transport and protected storage of the complete WIDOS Miniplast/2.

How it works

The plastic pipes to be butt welded are clamped by means of the clamping devices. Then the front sides of the pipes are cut and planed perfectly parallel by means of the planer and any misalignment of the pipes is checked.

The heating element is inserted and the pipes are pressed against the heating element under defined adjusting pressure (info available on request). This process is called "adjusting".

After the prescribed bead height has been reached, pressure is reduced, and the heating time begins. The function of this time is to heat up the pipe ends ready for fusion welding.

After expiration of the heating time, the slides are opened, the heating element is removed quickly and the pipes are driven together again. The time gap from the removal of the heating element to joining the pipes is called 'change-over time'.

The pipes are joined under prescribed welding pressure and then cool down under pressure (cooling time). The welded joint can be unclamped, and the welding process is finished.

To clean up the bead on butt welded joints you will need debeaders, also available on this website.  There are two main types available - inside debeaders and outside debeaders - each of which come in various sizes to suit the diameter of pipes being welded.
